“Forgiveness” – Rev. Carol Record

“Forgiveness” – Rev. Carol Record

Inspired by lyrics to “It’s Up to Me” by Sue Riley, Nathen Aswell, Glen Roethel:

“If I seek the Truth, let me speak the Truth.  If I’m lost in doubt, let me believe.
I know I can be the change I want to see. If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

If I’m feeling stressed, let me stop and rest.  If I’m feeling hurt, let me forgive.
I know I can be the change I want to see.  If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

If I dream of peace, let me live in peace.  When I start from love, I am love.
I know I can be the change I want to see.  If it’s to be it’s up to me.”

“Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors….  If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you….  But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions” (Matthew 6:12-14).

If I seek the Truth, let me speak the Truth.
If I’m lost in doubt, let me believe.
I know I can be the change I want to see.
If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

Jesus said, “Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.  At that, some of the scribes said to themselves, ‘This man is blaspheming.’  Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said, ‘… Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? … The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’—he then said to the paralytic, ‘Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home” (Mt. 9:2-6).

If I’m feeling stressed, let me stop and rest.
If I’m feeling hurt, let me forgive.
I know I can be, the change I want to see.
If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

“Then Peter came and said to Him, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?’  Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven’” (Mt. 18:21-22).

If I dream of peace, let me live in peace.
When I start from love, I am love.
I know I can be the change I want to see.
If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

“If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained” (John 20:23).

I know I can be the change I want to see.
If it’s to be, it’s up to me!
