“Who We Become” – Leddy Hammock

Inspired by lyrics to “Who You Become” by Sue Riley and Jana Stanfield:

“Keep your eyes on the prize, but don’t fret if you stray, because the most important thing is who you become along the way.

It’s how you love, how you live, how you laugh, how you give.

Yes, the most important thing is who you become along the way.”

“It is not that I have … already attained perfect maturity, but I continue my pursuit in hope…. Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus. Let us, then, who are ‘perfectly mature’ adopt this attitude” (Philippians 3:3-15).

We keep our eyes on the prize,
but don’t fret if we stray,
because the most important thing
is who we become along the way.

“Wisdom rescued from tribulations those who served her…. A righteous man [She] guided …in right ways …gave … knowledge of holy things; …prospered … made abundant the fruit of his works, stood by him … and enriched him; … preserved him from foes, and secured him …. and She gave him the prize for his hard struggle that he might know that devotion to God is mightier than all else” (Wisdom 10:9-12).

It’s how we love, how we live,
how we laugh, how we give.
Yes, the most important thing
is who we become along the way.

“The hand of our God remained over us, and he protected us from enemies and robbers along the way” (Ezra 8:31).

We keep our eyes on the prize,
but don’t fret if we stray,
because the most important thing
is who we become along the way

“May God Almighty bless you and … multiply you that you may become an assembly of peoples” (Isaac’s blessing upon his son, Jacob, in Genesis 28:3).

It’s how we love, how we live,
how we laugh, how we give.
Yes, the most important thing
is who we become along the way.
