Kevin Lindsay

kevin-lindsayAround the turn of the century, the Unity Band, in its infancy, starred Bill Barrett on the keyboards, accompanying vocalist Keir Walton, along with the great background sound of the drum beat provided by Kevin Lindsay. Kevin continued with the band for five years, playing every Sunday without fail. A growing family and demands of income-producing, weekend band jobs eventually led to his stepping down from the full time drummer position, but he still enjoys filling in from time to time.

Kevin and his wife Alex had been looking for a “credible” spiritual home when they found Unity Church of Clearwater in 2001.  They were immediately attracted to the whole Unity family and joined the church when their first child was not even a year old. To Kevin, Unity is a more “grown-up” religion, so familiar and comfortable that leaving would be not unlike a divorce.

The Lindsay family consists of Seraphina, 14, Spencer, 10, and Silaney, 7, plus a menagerie of all female pets–1 dog, 2 cats, 2 chickens, 2 ducks. In addition to the younger children, Kevin has two grown children from a previous marriage, a son Christopher and a daughter Brandi, as well as a granddaughter Marilyn.  The 2012 loss of  Brandon, Christopher’s twin brother, is immeasurable.

Kevin, was born in Springfield, OH relocated to Indiana as an adult, and moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1988.  He came to Clearwater on vacation and loved it so much that he immediately started looking for employment.  He got a job, went home, gave his two-week notice, and BAM, he’s a Floridian.  Here, he worked as a  tech in a psychiatric hospital for 8 years, where one of his duties involved physical restraint, not a good fit.  He wanted to help people feel better.  And, so it is, that Kevin recently celebrated his 21st year as an LMT.  He still works as a Licensed Massage Therapist at Massage Envy at Enterprise and McMullen  Booth Road and offers mobile massage service in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco counties.

Music has remained an important part of Kevin’s life since the day in his 9th year that he joined the school band, following a reprimand from his teacher to stop playing drums on his desk. Today, he sings in the Scorpions tribute band “Blackout” and two cover bands, one as a singing drummer and one as front man/singer. He also enjoys kayaking and riding his scooter and bike, and, with his family, loves to vacation in Gatlinburg, TN, where they have returned many times, always appreciating the colorful touch of autumn beauty at the end of October.
