For the past five years Mary MacKenzie has been doing volunteer work with the City of Pinellas Park.
She maintains the Clock Tower Park on Park Boulevard and 49th Street in Pinellas Park. She had been honored by Bay News 9 and the Pinellas Park Beacon as well as the annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquets.
She plants, waters, weeds and prays for her plants. The new flowering shrubs have all been grown from cuttings from other friend’s gardens. She is currently working without any sprinkling system at the park and lugging water bottles back and forth to keep the new seedlings well and growing.
At a very recent Awards Banquet for Volunteers in Pinellas Park, Mary not only had a great dinner with friends but also met with her councilwoman and voiced her concerns over the long dry season with no irrigation. To her joy, the maintenance crew was at the Tower Park the next morning and it appears that all is well.
Next up, a Butterfly Garden in this formerly sandy, plain little park.
